Lombardi alla prima crociata

The performance of Verdi’s “Lombardi alla prima crociata” by scene director Lamberto Puggelli produced by Parma Teatro Regio is a strong denunciation against the horror of war, against the violent and racist ideologies of any epoch and particularly of our days. The crusade event is stylized as a meta-historic terrific conflict of races and men killing other men and women and children.  Its setting is Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall, where races meet and prey but do not find peace. The Wall becomes  then a screen for projections of modern recent and contemporary horrors: Picasso’s distorted painting Guernica introduces real photographs of the Golf war, of the murders in Gaza, of the bombing in Syria, of migrants dying in the Mediterranean.
